Description
An 18ct yellow gold half hunter minute repeater pocket watch by Manoah Rhodes & Sons Bradford – 1888. An important maker in the north of England Manoah Rhodes was founded in Bradford in 1836, and during the course of the 19th-century became a well-known maker of watches and jewellery. An expensive item when it was made this fine example features a window in the front case side, and deep blue enamelled Roman numerals and rail track details. The minute repeater complication has a rich history after first appearing in the mid-18th-century. When a slide on the outer case is pushed small hammers inside the mechanism strike wire gongs audibly noting the hours and quarters. Manoah Rhodes & Sons Bradford 22301.
