Description

A classic 18ct yellow gold, cushion cut ruby and old cut diamond five stone ring from the Victorian Period. Two rich claret red rubies glow as they elegantly spread across the finger. These have been expertly set beside romantic old cut diamonds that transmit life and fire into the rubies. Small diamonds have also been expertly set into the claw sections, which secure the main stones. Rings in this style became increasingly popular during the Victorian period when it became fashionable to wear multiple rings on each hand. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large. The richly polished openwork yellow gold mount displays a ribbon like pattern, which enables the maximum amount of light to enter and exit the stones. Victorians loved anything bestowed with meaning, and this was particularly true of jewellery. With rubies traditionally representing passion and devotion, and diamonds love and prosperity this ring can be related to the ‘Romantic’ period of the era. This represented a time of marital bliss for Queen Victoria, and resulted in some beautiful jewellery designs.
